Pre-Treatment Instructions for Skin Peel

Preparing your skin before your peel is essential to achieving the best possible results. Follow these pre-treatment guidelines in the days leading up to your appointment:

  1. Avoid Sun Exposure: Refrain from direct sun exposure and avoid tanning beds for at least 1 week before your skin peel. Sunburned or irritated skin cannot be treated, and it may result in the rescheduling of your appointment.

  2. Discontinue Retinoids and Exfoliants: Stop using retinoids (Retin-A, tretinoin), exfoliants, and any products containing alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA), beta-hydroxy acids (BHA), or glycolic acid for at least 5-7 days before your peel. These products can increase skin sensitivity.

  3. Avoid Hair Removal: Refrain from waxing, threading, or using depilatory creams on the treatment area for 7 days before your peel to avoid irritation.

  4. Consultation: During your consultation, let us know if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or using any medication that may affect your skin’s response to treatment. Also, inform us of any recent treatments such as laser or microdermabrasion.

  5. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your treatment. Hydrated skin responds better to a skin peel, as it enhances the skin’s ability to heal and regenerate.

  6. Avoid Certain Medications: Avoid taking blood-thinning medications or supplements such as aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, or vitamin E for 48 hours before treatment to minimize the risk of bruising or inflammation.

  7. Arrive with Clean Skin: On the day of your treatment, please arrive with a clean, makeup-free face. Avoid applying lotions, moisturizers, or any skincare products on the day of the treatment.

Post-Treatment Aftercare for Skin Peel

After your Skin Peel treatment, your skin will be more sensitive as it heals and regenerates. Proper aftercare is crucial to protect your skin, promote healing, and ensure you achieve the best results. Follow these post-treatment guidelines:

  1. Expect Peeling and Redness:

Mild redness, sensitivity, and peeling are common post-treatment. This is a normal part of the process as dead skin cells shed, revealing fresher skin underneath. Peeling typically begins 2-3 days after the peel and can last for 3-7 days.

Do not pick, pull, or scratch at the peeling skin. This can lead to scarring or hyperpigmentation.

  2. Avoid Sun Exposure:

Your skin will be highly sensitive to UV rays post-peel. Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 2 weeks and apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily. Sun protection is critical to prevent pigmentation and protect your new skin.

  3. Moisturize Frequently:

Apply a gentle, hydrating moisturizer regularly to help soothe and nourish your skin as it heals. Keeping the skin moisturized will reduce discomfort and help promote skin regeneration.

  4. No Makeup for 24-48 Hours:

Avoid applying makeup for 24-48 hours after the peel to allow the skin to breathe and heal. Once you resume makeup use, choose non-comedogenic, lightweight products to avoid clogging the pores.

  5. Avoid Heat and Exercise:

Refrain from activities that increase heat and sweat, such as exercise, saunas, steam rooms, and hot showers, for at least 48 hours post-treatment. Excess heat can increase inflammation and slow the healing process.

  6. Avoid Exfoliating Products:

Do not use scrubs, exfoliating brushes, or any active ingredients such as retinoids, AHA/BHA, or vitamin C for at least 1 week after your peel, as these can irritate your healing skin.

  7. Hydrate:

Drink plenty of water to help keep your skin hydrated from within, which supports faster healing and enhances the skin’s ability to repair itself.

  8. No Other Treatments:

Avoid other facial treatments, including waxing, laser, and chemical procedures, for at least 2-4 weeks after your skin peel, depending on your provider’s advice.

What to Expect After Your Skin Peel

  • Immediate Redness and Sensitivity: It’s normal to experience redness, sensitivity, and tightness right after the peel. These effects typically subside within 24-48 hours, and peeling generally begins 2-3 days post-treatment.

  • Peeling and Shedding: Your skin will go through a shedding process over the next 3-7 days, revealing smoother, more radiant skin beneath. Everyone’s peeling experience may vary, and lighter peels may result in minimal peeling.

  • Results: The results of a skin peel will be visible once the peeling subsides. Your skin will appear brighter, smoother, and more even-toned. Depending on the strength of the peel and your skin concerns, multiple treatments may be needed for optimal results.
