At Revive Esthetics, we are committed to ensuring that you achieve the best possible results from your Microneedling Treatment. This advanced procedure stimulates collagen production, improves skin texture, reduces scars, fine lines, and wrinkles, and leaves your skin looking rejuvenated. To maximize the results and ensure a smooth treatment experience, it’s important to follow our pre-treatment and post-treatment care guidelines.
Pre-Treatment Instructions for Microneedling
Preparing your skin for Microneedling will help ensure a smooth procedure and optimize your results. Please follow these guidelines in the days leading up to your appointment:
Avoid Sun Exposure: Refrain from direct sun exposure, tanning beds, and sunburns for at least 48 hours prior to treatment. Microneedling cannot be performed on sunburned or irritated skin.
Discontinue Use of Retinoids and Exfoliants: Stop using retinoids, acids (AHA/BHA), or any harsh exfoliants on your skin for 5-7 days before treatment. These products can increase skin sensitivity.
Avoid Certain Medications: Avoid blood-thinning medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and supplements like fish oil and vitamin E for 48 hours before the procedure to minimize bruising.
Hydrate: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your treatment to keep your skin well-hydrated.
Arrive with Clean Skin: Please arrive with a clean, makeup-free face. If you have any residual skincare products or makeup, our specialists will cleanse your skin before starting the treatment.
Consultation: During your consultation, inform your provider of any skin conditions, medications, or medical history that could affect your treatment. This includes cold sores, as you may need preventative treatment.
Avoid Alcohol: Refrain from consuming alcohol for 24 hours before your Microneedling session, as it may increase the risk of bruising.
Post-Treatment Aftercare for Microneedling
After your Microneedling session, it’s important to take care of your skin to promote healing, reduce potential side effects, and enhance the results. Follow these aftercare instructions:
Redness and Sensitivity:
Mild redness, swelling, and tenderness are normal for 24-48 hours post-treatment. The skin may feel similar to a mild sunburn. This will subside within a couple of days.
Avoid Makeup:
Refrain from applying makeup for 24 hours after your treatment to allow the skin to heal properly. When you resume makeup, ensure it is non-comedogenic and gentle on the skin.
Avoid Harsh Skincare Products:
Use only gentle, hydrating products for the first 48-72 hours post-treatment. Avoid active ingredients such as retinol, acids (AHA/BHA), vitamin C, or any exfoliants for at least 5-7 days to prevent irritation.
Moisturize:
Keep your skin well-hydrated by applying a hydrating serum and a non-comedogenic moisturizer regularly. This will help soothe the skin and support its natural healing process.
Sun Protection:
Protect your skin from direct sun exposure for at least 72 hours post-treatment, as your skin will be more sensitive to UV rays. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily, even if you are indoors.
Avoid Heat:
Avoid hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, or intense exercise that induces sweating for 48 hours post-treatment. Heat can increase inflammation and prolong the healing process.
Do Not Pick or Exfoliate:
Do not pick at any peeling or flaking skin. Avoid any exfoliating treatments or scrubs for at least 7 days post-treatment to prevent irritation and scarring.
Stay Hydrated:
Drink plenty of water to help support the skin’s healing process and maintain hydration from within.
Avoid Other Skin Treatments:
Refrain from any facials, chemical peels, laser treatments, or waxing in the treated area for 2 weeks following your microneedling session to allow your skin to recover fully.
What to Expect After Microneedling
Immediate Redness: Post-treatment redness is normal and typically subsides within 24-48 hours. Your skin may appear slightly flushed, similar to a mild sunburn.
Visible Results: After 3-5 days, you will begin to notice improvements in skin texture, tone, and radiance as your skin starts to heal and collagen production increases.
Ongoing Results: Full results may take 4-6 weeks to appear as the skin continues to produce collagen and elastin. For optimal results, a series of treatments may be recommended, depending on your skin concerns.
