Pre & Aftercare for HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) Treatment
At Revive Esthetics, our HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) treatment is a non-invasive solution for lifting, tightening, and rejuvenating the skin. To ensure you receive the maximum benefits from your HIFU treatment and experience minimal discomfort, it is essential to follow both the pre-treatment and post-treatment care instructions carefully.
Pre-Treatment Instructions for HIFU
Properly preparing your skin for the HIFU treatment will help you achieve the best results and minimize any potential discomfort. Please follow these guidelines in the days leading up to your appointment:
Avoid Sun Exposure: Refrain from excessive sun exposure or using tanning beds for at least 72 hours before your treatment. Sunburned or irritated skin may result in the rescheduling of your appointment.
Discontinue Retinoids and Exfoliants: Stop using products that contain retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, or other exfoliating ingredients for 3-5 days before your treatment. These products can make your skin more sensitive.
Hydrate: Drink plenty of water to ensure your skin is well-hydrated leading up to the treatment. Hydrated skin responds better to the HIFU procedure.
Avoid Blood Thinners: Avoid taking anti-inflammatory medications (e.g., ibuprofen, aspirin) and blood-thinning supplements (e.g., fish oil, vitamin E) for at least 48 hours prior to your session to reduce the risk of bruising.
Skip Harsh Skincare Treatments: Avoid any other intense facial treatments, such as peels, laser, or microdermabrasion, for 1-2 weeks prior to your HIFU session to prevent excessive skin sensitivity.
No Makeup on the Day of Treatment: On the day of your HIFU treatment, arrive with clean, makeup-free skin to allow the treatment to start immediately.
Consultation: During your consultation, let us know if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any pre-existing skin conditions. We will ensure the treatment is safe and appropriate for your skin.
Post-Treatment Aftercare for HIFU
After your HIFU treatment, it’s important to follow these aftercare instructions to maximize results and promote the healing process:
Redness and Swelling:
Mild redness, swelling, or tenderness in the treated areas is normal and typically subsides within 24-48 hours. This is part of the skin’s healing process. If discomfort occurs, you can apply a cold compress to soothe the skin.
Avoid Sun Exposure:
Protect your skin from direct sun exposure for at least 1 week after the treatment. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily, even if you are indoors, to prevent sun damage and hyperpigmentation.
Moisturize and Hydrate:
Keep your skin well-hydrated by applying a gentle, non-comedogenic moisturizer regularly. Drink plenty of water to support your skin’s healing and hydration levels.
Avoid Heat:
Refrain from hot showers, steam rooms, saunas, and intense exercise for 48-72 hours post-treatment. Excessive heat can increase redness and irritation.
No Makeup for 24 Hours:
Avoid wearing makeup for at least 24 hours after the treatment to allow the skin to recover. Once you resume makeup use, ensure it is gentle and non-comedogenic.
Gentle Skincare:
Use only mild, non-irritating skincare products for the first 48 hours post-treatment. Avoid using harsh exfoliants, retinoids, or acids (such as AHAs, BHAs, or vitamin C) for 5-7 days to prevent irritation.
Avoid Other Facial Treatments:
Avoid any other facial treatments, such as chemical peels, laser treatments, or microdermabrasion, for at least 2-4 weeks following your HIFU treatment to allow your skin to heal properly.
Avoid Massaging the Treated Areas:
Refrain from massaging or rubbing the treated area for 1 week after the treatment. This helps prevent disrupting the natural healing process.
Potential Side Effects
Although rare, it’s important to be aware of the potential side effects of HIFU. These can include:
Mild redness, swelling, or tingling in the treated area.
Temporary discomfort or tenderness at the treatment site.
Slight bruising or numbness, which should resolve within a few days.
If you experience prolonged discomfort, significant swelling, or any unusual reactions, please contact us immediately for guidance.
How to Maximize Your Results
To maximize the long-lasting effects of your HIFU treatment:
Maintain a healthy skincare routine: Use high-quality moisturizers, serums, and sunscreens.
Avoid smoking and alcohol, as they can accelerate the skin’s aging process.
Stay hydrated and eat a balanced diet rich in antioxidants to support skin health.
Follow-up treatments: Consider regular HIFU treatments every 12-18 months to maintain your results and prolong your skin’s youthfulness.
